A retreat in Luogosanto, Sardinia,
to rediscover that living well is the true key to longevity
– October 22 to 25 –
In Sardinia, longevity is a way of life, time spent consciously, in harmony with the environment and those around us.
Gallicantu, a stazzo retreat in the heart of rural Gallura, embodies this vision in a four-day experience, running from 22 to 25 October, designed to help guests slow down, reconnect and cultivate well-being as a daily practice.
The setting for Living Well is a traditional farmstead, lovingly restored after years of abandonment, surrounded by more than three hectares of Mediterranean vegetation, granite rocks and centuries-old olive trees. A place that doesn’t simply host the experience, but becomes an integral part of it.
Scientific direction is provided by Giuseppe Ferraro, a medical anthropologist with an interdisciplinary background spanning health anthropology, sociology and education. For years, he has been conducting field research in the Blue Zones of Sardinia, exploring longevity as a biocultural and relational phenomenon.
“The culture of living well in Sardinia is not a secret to be purchased or a protocol to be followed. It is ingrained in the way of life, in slowness, in the art of inhabiting time, in the continuous relationship with the land, the breeze and silence. It is not a matter of adding something, but of removing what consumes us. This retreat doesn’t promise shortcuts or measurable results, but creates the conditions for body and consciousness to rediscover a different way of attuning to life.” explains Giuseppe Ferraro.

Living Well unfolds over four days dedicated to listening, honouring one’s own rhythms and shared practices. The programme weaves together walks in the woods of Gallura, Tai Chi and Qi Gong sessions, breathing exercises and stargazing, tastings of local products and lessons in traditional cookery.
A symbolic and participatory element of the retreat is the Biographical Garden: each participant will have the opportunity to plant a native Sardinian plant and leave a personal message held in the “library of longevity” – an invitation to return one day and see what they have sown.

Living Well is a retreat with limited availability, designed for those who want to pause, examine their habits and rediscover an idea of well-being rooted in quality of life rather than duration.

Gallicantu Stazzo Retreat
Gallicantu, meaning “dawn” in ancient Sardinian, is a stazzo dating back to the 1930s that lay abandoned for nearly half a century. Owners Marco Maria Berio and Raffaella Manca took care of its rebirth personally, from sourcing materials to selecting furnishings, shaping every detail according to their vision for the place. The stazzo, for centuries the fulcrum of Gallura’s agro-pastoral life, derives from Latin statio (station, stopping place) and refers to both the farm and the cottages inhabited by the owners or sharecroppers. Today, Gallicantu is a charming retreat offering nine individually designed rooms and suites, a swimming pool carved out among the rocks, a pre-Nuragic cave used for tastings, and a small wellness area with sauna, Turkish bath and sensory showers.
Country life takes place all around: the kitchen garden supplies the kitchen, and guests are welcome to gather seasonal vegetables, basket in hand. Beyond the garden sit hundreds of olive, almond, fruit and citrus trees, along with several varieties of cherry.

Giuseppe Ferraro
Medical anthropologist and trainer with a multidisciplinary background integrating educational sciences, sociology of work and the anthropology of health and longevity. For over a decade, Giuseppe has worked across education, training and body practices, exploring the intersections between body, culture, ageing and healing. He teaches Tai Chi as a practice of prevention, well-being and transformation and is the creator of Full Body Resonance, a holistic method that combines conscious movement, energy rebalancing and psycho-physical integration. In recent years, his work has focused on longevity understood not as mere biological duration, but as the relational quality of ageing: an interweaving of body, environment, culture and consciousness. He conducts independent research in the Blue Zones of Sardinia, investigating traditional knowledge, the role of place and the emerging frontiers of regeneration.
